Inspired by George Stubbs' Whistlejacket

British artist George Stubbs (1724-1806) is best known for his realistic paintings of horses. Stubbs devoted much time to studying the anatomy his equine subjects, and gained strong support from members of the aristocracy for his accurate renditions of horses. Stubbs' oil painting Whistlejacket was commissioned by the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, and is of Rockingham's race horse. Today, the impressive 9.5-foot high painting resides at the National Gallery in London. Measures approximately 5.75"L x 5"H.
